As the title suggests, my blog has content from many sources. Being a nerd, there is a strong geeky vibe here but my interests are varied and include a passion for outdoor adventure based education, so hopefully there will something to interest everyone.

With the proliferation of rock band video games and isolated tracks posted to Youtube at the moment there is plenty of opportunity for us to listen to the nuances of drum grooves we may feel we know by heart, such as John Bonham’s driving beat behind Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love". Back when this was recorded the drum track was all about feeling. As a result of the recording techniques of the time, drum tracks tended to sound like a single instrument since they were recorded with only two or three mics capturing the space around the kit, rather than the sound of individual pieces. With that in mind you realise this is just an astonishing moment in music history.
