Internet: A Warning

Fast forward to the year 2068 and how will we look back on the Internet? The Poke has a great spoof documentary on how they see it happening. It is so true it's scary.

Landfill Harmonic

I have discussed here before about how much we often underestimate the power of music. How it can transform lives in many ways. Here is a fantastic illustration of what I mean. The Landfill Harmonic (clever eh?) is an orchestra made up of children from a slum whose instruments are created from refuse upon which their village resides. What a wonderful idea.

Panda Play

The following video needs to come with a warning. A soon as I started to watch it, I felt any manliness I possess leave me and was reduced to one big "Awwwwww". These lovely creatures were captured at Chengdu Panda Base. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan Province in South West China and maintains a unique and uncompromising commitment to panda conservation. See more here.

Into The Sun

NASA has captured some stunning video footage of a comet hitting the Sun. It was captured by NASA's Solar & Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) on May 10th and May 11th and posted to NASA Goddard's Flickr page. The Sun itself is obscured in the video and represented by a white circle. A coronal mass ejection (CME) blasted out to the right just as the comet is approaching the Sun, but Scientists say there is no connection between sun-grazing comets and CME's. In fact, analysis of this CME using images from the Solar Dynamics Observatory shows that the CME erupted before the comet came close enough to the solar surface to interact with strong magnetic fields.

Flip Record

A world-record attempt of 29 skiers simultaneously doing a back flip together? Oh OK. This record attempt took place over the weekend at Mont Saint-Sauveur ski resort in Quebec, Canada. It makes me smile.

Another angle.

Pink Panther

I was very sure that I had posted about THePETEBOX before but I can't seem to find it now. Anyway, either way I hope you enjoy his superb take on the theme to The Pink Panther - Panther Dance. I wholly recommend his album, Future Loops.

Jumpy is a very aptly named dog that has got to be the ultimate extreme sportsman of the animal kingdom. We all know that dogs can be smart but this one appears to be a cut above.

From A TO B

Ruben van der Vleuten wanted to see what happened to a package after it was dropped off at the post office, before it was delivered to his home. So he outfitted a box with a complex camera system, addressed it to himself, and recorded the journey. See more here.

It’s Bigger On The Inside

Being ever so slightly obsessed with Doctor Who, I'm always drawn to anything "Whovian" but this one makes me drool. Greg Kumparak built a model of the TARDIS. So what? Sure I couldn't manage it but it's not exactly ground-breaking is it? Well what if I told you it really was bigger on the inside? No, it really is! With the help of some augmented reality Greg has made what has to be the coolest model ever. Read more about it here.

Have You Heard Of The Internet?

This a fun look back on how things used to be. What amazing things you could discover on The Internet back in 1995. Not much has changed has it?
