Peavey AT-200

I'm not a brilliant guitar player by any means but considering I'm entirely self-taught I'm happy with the level I'm at. Tuning is always a tricky thing for newbies to pick up, especially if you don't have the benefit of an electronic tuner. But guitar maker Peavey have now taken it a step further with the AT-200.

Externally, it looks like any other modern electric, but it features an active system that can tune the strings and then keep them in tune.

Song & Dance

I've featured a fair few mashups before but not like this one. It includes The Beatles, Boston, Cypress Hill, Daft Punk, The Beastie Boys, Criminal Element Orchestra, Freeez and many many more. What makes it special for me is the inclusion of just about every movie dance scene there has been, and they're even synced too! Enjoy.

The Future

If you watch a lot of Sci-Fi you'll already know what the future holds. It will either be a utopian paradise with our every whim catered for, or a dystopian nightmare of a ravaged earth and/or alien overlords. The following video is a cut together of some of the best science fiction visions of what's in store. Can you spot all the films? Whichever way it turns out, it seems there will be both Coke and Pepsi!

In Sync

If you place 32 metronomes on a static surface and set them off out of phase with one another, they will remain that way indefinitely. However, place them on a moveable surface and something very interesting happens. Energy from the motion of one ticking metronome can affect the motion of every metronome around it, while the motion of every other metronome affects the motion of our original metronome right back. Understand? The end result is that they eventually all fall in line. Even the one on the right that tries to be a proper rebel.

ISS Tour

In her final days as Commander of the International Space Station, Sunita Williams of NASA recorded an extensive tour of the orbital laboratory and downlinked the video on Nov. 18, just hours before she, cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko and Flight Engineer Aki Hoshide of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency departed in their Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft for a landing on the steppe of Kazakhstan. The tour includes scenes of each of the station's modules and research facilities with a running narrative by Williams of the work that has taken place and which is ongoing aboard the orbital outpost.

Potato Ball In A Box

A pointless exercise but I've never been against them. Here "Chef John" shows us how to carve a ball from a box from a potato. I may try this but only so I can fry it and eat it.

I Believe I Can Fly

Tancrède, Julien, Seb and Antoine are pioneers in ‘highlining’ - a vertiginous combination of climbing, slackline and tightrope walking. Absolutely mad if you ask me but I can't help being astonished as I watch them travel from their home in Chamonix to training in the Verdon gorge, the skyscrapers of Paris, and finally the spectacular cliffs and fjords of Norway.

Pop Mashup 2012

Regulars to e-clecticism will remember that I have featured mashups before. When they're done well they seem effortless but I realise they actually take a whole lot of work. Daniel Kim's "Pop Danthology 2012" is particularly good. Featuring 55 different tracks (no really I checked) it covers all the big pop hits of 2012.

Jesse Heiman

When I first saw the following video I assumed that nobody could have appeared in that many films and TV programs without being famous and that it must be something like After Effects at work. But no, Jesse Heiman seems to be making a career about of being a nobody.

The British Space Race

This one is a bit longer than the usual but really worth a watch. The space race might seem a two-horse race between America and the Soviet Union, but for a short time Britain was the unlikely player in the world of rocket research. This is the story of the unsung pioneers of British space exploration - the rocket engineers, the scientists and the dreamers who, despite lack of resources, never gave up on their vision for bringing the future into the present.
