Leonid Timelapse

Why stand out in the cold and dark to see the Leonid Meteor Shower when photographer's like Stephane Vetter exist? He created a fabulous time-lapse with 610 shots on a Nikon D3 and a Sigma 8 mm fish-eye lens.

Dare To Fight

There are so many videos out there now of supposedly funny flash mobs now, that I tend to skip  over them. This one however is simply brilliant. Some crazy Canadians had the fabulous idea to stage a ninja dual on the streets of Montreal. With hilarious results.

Another beautifully rendered animation this time featuring a Samurai fight to the death. I still cannot comprehend the amount of work that goes in to even a short film like this.

Possibly the greatest performance by a face ever. Dutch prog-rockers Focus giving a breathtaking performance of their song "Hocus Pocus" on NBC´s Midnight Special in 1973.

As some wag on YouTube put it. "I just wish they'd do a version with the lyrics!".

Brushy One String

You could spend thousands on all the best and latest equipment, but if you have true spirit and talent, it seems you don't need anything like that. This is the trailer for a documentary called RiseUp. It features several musicians from the Jamaican underground scene. "Brushy One String" is just full of spirit, talent and a whole lot of soul.

Head Drummer

What can I say about this? I just know that if I get a headache from a party the previous night, this is not normally how I go about it.

Software Translation

We are still a very long way off from the Universal Translator used in Star Trek, but Microsoft has created a program designed to provide "on-the-fly" spoken translations in the user's own voice. Rick Rashid, Microsoft's chief research officer, said that their translator still makes errors at a noticeable rate but significantly improves on previous efforts. Demonstrating by getting some of his remarks translated into Mandarin Chinese during a conference held in Tianjin, China recently, he explains how the techniques have changed over the years to improve the stats.

Animal Actor

This is a great way to start your day. A hamster plays dead after someone pretends to shoot him. But even better are some of the comments on YouTube.

If you look closely, you will see that the gun is actually fake.

Still a better actor than Kristen Stewart.

Ad v Ad

If you live in the UK you won't have failed to notice the difference in advertising styles between the iPad and Microsoft Surface. It is even more apparent if you watch this spoof which combines them and made me chuckle.

Titanic Film

No not that one, I found this one quite fascinating. It is genuine 1912 Footage. This British Pathé newsreel (without the music) would have been shown in the cinemas at the time of the disaster. Footage includes the Titanic leaving Belfast Lough for Southampton on April 2nd, 1912. Captain Smith on the Bridge of the Titanic Olympic. The video also shows various ships such the Carparthia returning from rescuing survivors. Journalists interviewing survivors. Guglielmo Marconi, the inventor of long distance radio transmission and who was credited with saving those who were saved because of his marvellous invention.

Time Travel?

I'm not really thinking that time travel is achievable but I do like little mysteries like this. He certainly looks out of place and I understand that it is a genuine photo from a genuine book.
