This is another movie that looks right up my street. Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes with a jolt to find himself on a commuter train heading into Chicago. Although the other passengers all seem to know him, he has absolutely no idea where or even who he is. The last thing Colter remembers is flying a helicopter mission in Iraq, but here he is in someone else's life going through someone else's morning commute. Before he can do anything an express train zooms by on the opposite track and a bomb explodes, seemingly killing Colter and all the other passengers.
A bit of The Matrix, Quantum Leap and Groundhog Day all rolled in to one, it is set for release in thr UK in April.
By the way, I'm sorry about the infrequent posting over the last few days, things have been a bit hectic.

Reverse Graffiti
Alexandre Orion is a Brazilian artist who had the idea to clean parts of the walls of an underpass in São Paulo. The sooty deposits from the car exhausts are partially rubbed away to leave the natural wall colour and to highlight the dangers of pollution. See his website here.

102 Year Old Lens
Timur Civan is a photographer and filmmaker that had a upcoming project that required a "vintage" look. After experimenting a little a friend of his came across a very old lens that he was convinced he could tinker with to make fit a modern Canon dSLR. The lens was in fact a circa 1908 Wollensak 35mm F5.0 Cine-Velostigmat hand cranked cinema camera lens. This is the result.
What follows are some stills that Timur took using this lens and camera combination. It should be pointed out that these have not been altered in any way but are straight JPEG's taken from the camera.
Timur also took some video, which follows, using this setup and I think you'll agree that far this lens losing anything in the 100+ years it has been lay in a box, it gives the footage a very special feel. For a full write up of the story, see Timur's blog.

A Positive Effect
This theme seems to be reoccurring for me at the moment. The idea that you can have a positive effect on someone by, sometimes anyway, doing the smallest little thing. If you're really lucky that positive effect can grow and be passed on and before you know it a whole load of people have benefited from your small act.
Take this guy for example. This video was filmed at the Sasquatch Music Festival in 2009. He starts out dancing on his own in such a flamboyant way that it becomes infectious and so somebody joins him. Then another, then another and before you know it, there is a full crowd. I keep watching this and it keeps making me smile.

My Blackberry Is Not Working
British comedy at its best today folks. The Two Ronnies were masters of the pun and wordplay in general. Now that Ronnie Barker is sadly no longer with us, it is good to see that Ronnie Corbett is keeping the tradition alive with Harry Enfield filling the great man's shoes. Enjoy this sketch from The One Ronnie that naturally for me has a geeky twist.

Goggling Rushmore
Google Goggles allows you to take a photograph of something that you wish to find out more about, such as a statue or a logo, and search for it using Google. As an exercise in pointlessness a group of friends attempt to fool it in to thinking that they are in fact Mount Rushmore. It seems it is not foolproof at all.

Aerial Tour
The little boy inside me is very excited about this. Team Black Sheep put a camera on a radio controlled plane and flew it over the Brooklyn and Verazano Bridge, around downtown Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty in what is known as FPV (First Person View). Watch the video they have made those shows the amazing and unique birds-eye views they captured.
While the footage is stunning, and Trappy (the pilot) claims it was all legal, many feel it was an irresponsible and reckless act. You can also watch the following interview where he answers his critics.

13 x 7 = 28
Even though I'm a total geek and spend most of my days immersed in the latest tech, I'm also a nostalgic kind of guy and I really appreciate vintage. Cars, films, books you name it, I like it a little more from yesteryear. I was reminded of Abbott & Costello recently and whilst I could post many many examples of great comic timing that you don't see much of anymore, this one is as good as any. Enjoy this great scene from the film Little Giant.

Microcosmos
I happened upon a rather nice book the other day. Microcosmos by Brandon Broll is a collection of photographs that illustrate the World Through Microscopic Images from 20 X to Over 22 Million X Magnification. Just take a look at these. They are truly beautiful but some are a little creepy too. But they all illustrate fantastically how our image of the world is so very narrow. Click to enlarge.

For Emma
I often get sent things that people think might make a good blog post and I love that, long may it continue. But its only my really good friends that know me so well as to simply hit the nail on the head. This is a great example from my buddy Roo. I don't know a huge amount about Bon Iver but I have heard the odd bit that I have liked. But Roo sent me an email that said...
I love Bon Iver but this is special...you should get chills anyway but if not you will when the camera pans!Oh boy was he right. Nice one buddy. As this is "for Emma", I'd like to dedicate it to my daughter Emma. Love you Lemmy!

Gone With The Blastwave
Gone With The Blast Wave was school project by five students at Kokkolan Aikuisopisto in Finland 2008-2009. Based on the comic of the same name by Finnish artist Kimmo Lemetti, this short film recieved great praise by teachers, students, friends and family.

The world is in ruins. The Red Button was pushed and the nuclear weapons did their jobs. Fallout has polluted the earth and there's nothing left to fight for. But that doesn't mean people have stopped fighting. Reds, Yellows and Blues. Battles between these armies are the only sign of life left. Unfortunately two Red soldiers haven't seen the war in months, because they are lost. Not fond of each other's fellowship, they hurry to the others.
Can they keep up the hope for a better tomorrow, when wandering around a polluted desert where even war doesn't bother to expand? Or does a better tomorrow even count anymore? That depends on which one you ask.

Metropolis
A while back I posted about an awesome Hot Wheels style track. But this one surpasses it. Chris Burden is an Amercican artist who has created a fully automated track useing over 1200 cars. This is just the sort of thing I would have prodeuced at age 7...If I had got my engineering degree. The track can be seen at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

One Million Dollars
I'd love to be rich. I mean really rich. I'm talking stinking filthy rich. Obscenely so. You getting the idea? They say it can't buy you happiness but I'd love the opportunity to find out. I'm often thinking up ways to acheive that level of richness too. Sadly nithing has panned out yet, but I'm ever hopeful. Perhaps I should have thought of this guy's trick...Just ask for the money! I wonder if it worked for him.

Cowboys & Aliens
What starts out looking like a classic western, soon turns in to a SciFi blockbuster. Starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford and due out next Summer, Cowboys & Aliens looks right up my street.
1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It’s a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents - townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors - all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

I Hope This Gets To You
Whatever you’re doing right now, stop and watch this video, then send it to your friends. Re-blog it, post it on Twitter, share it on Facebook, anything. You don’t have to watch the video, although you should, but you do need to pass it on. Why? Walter C. May explains how this came to be...
After my girlfriend moved away for graduate school, I wanted to create something different to express my feelings for her. I secretly created a song and video with my friends the Daylights in hopes that it would be passed around and get to her organically. WITH YOUR HELP, we can meet this goal and it can stand as a symbol of what we can do as an digital social community. This is dedicated to anyone who is separated from people they love.It was posted on YouTube yesterday and has since then been tweeted about by May’s friends, random strangers, and even Katy Perry. But his girlfriend, for whom the video was made, hasn’t seen it yet. You can follow Walter's tweets here if you want to know when the video finally reaches her.

Women Are Firewalls
I read this recently and I found it hilarious. Is it just me? Yup, thought so. :-)
Women are the most amazing firewalls.
- One human cell contains 75MB genetic information.
- One sperm contains a half of that; that is 37.5MB.
- One ml of semen contains 100 million sperms.
- In average, ejaculation lasts for 5 sec and contains 2.25 ml semen.
- This means that the throughput of a man’s member is equal to (37.5MB x 100,000,000 x 2.25)/5 = 1 687 500 000 000 000 byte/second = 1,6875 Тerabyte/sec
The downside of it is that this only small data package that it lets through, hangs the system for the whole of 9 months!
